Courtesy and Prompt Service are Stressed by Progressive Proprietor

[The Welland-Port Colborne Evening Tribune, 9 December 1931]

N.P. Haist, proprietor of the drug store under his name on South Main street, believes that a good up-to-date druggist should carry a full line of sick-room supplies, medicines, confectionery, stationary and toilet preparations, and he has also at his establishments diverged from the usual lines by also carrying radios and instituting a splendid radio service, which is very highly appreciated.

Commencing to associate himself with the drug business and the pharmaceutical profession in 1910, Mr. Haist who came from Fenwick to Welland 21 years ago, graduated from the Ontario College of Pharmacy in 1915. He opened his present store in 1920, and now carries a stock valued at approximately $15,000.

Praises This Vicinity

Mr. Haist has a very high opinion of Welland and district. He told The Tribune he found it a locality of real progress. In his opinion it was one of the best centres in the Niagara peninsula. “I am led in this opinion by travellers who know this city,” he said. “They know too, the entire peninsula and claim that Welland was one of the last places in this part of Ontario to feel the pinch of the present economic depression.”

“The public, in my opinion, demand above all else courtesy and rapidity of service,” Mr. Haist  reminded The Tribune. “And most assuredly does the public demand that experience which impels instant confidence in an establishment. This, I may say is something we have always aimed to express.”

The dispensary, Mr. Haist states, is a Schwartz sectional one, where all drugs, pharmaceuticals and galenicals are all stored in light-proof and dust-proof compartments, each container being in a compartment. This, Mr. Haist emphasizes, ensures absolute purity of drugs and preparations.

This led Mr. Haist to observe that the science of pharmacy had advanced considerably during the past 20 years. During that period, he said, scientific discoveries had been made which had generally improved the public health. Longevity, he observed, had been increased approximately 10 years.

“We feel, too, and have always believed,” Mr. Haist continued, “that cleanliness and store arrangement form together a strong incentive to public demand. We realize that the children of today are the buyers of to-morrow, and their friendship is particularly cultivated. As an example they should ever remember we aim to preserve always this combined virtue of cleanliness and artistry of store arrangement.”

Specialize in Radio

The N.P. Haist store has made for at least seven years a specialty of radio salesmanship and radio service. During the seven years that the establishment has handled radios, it has progressed in the business from the system of buying machines on the open market for standard lines, and specializes on this basis in Victors, Philco to that of becoming an authorized Philcos and Stromberg-Carlsons. These radios, in Mr. Haist’s opinion, gathered after mature consideration, are the best machines on the market.

The store maintains a complete radio service department where machines of all makes are repaired and serviced. In this department the establishment has the best checking facilities monies can buy, thus eliminating all chance of guess work, and ensuring the customer the utmost possible satisfaction.

The service department is under the charge of C.R. Booker, who has had seven years experience in building and servicing radios. The store has a service truck.

The staff comprises Mr. Haist, Gordon Reif and Mr. Booker.

THE RECORD MADE BY PHILCO RADIO IS REMARKABLE
LEPT FROM TWENTY-FIFTH PLACE TO FIRST IN PERIOD OF FOUR YEARS

The record of Philco from leaping from 25st place in the manufacturing field of radio to first in four years and maintaining it for the last two years is considered as phenomenal.

So great has been the growth and the product so widely accepted, that the name Philco has become a household word and many people now buying the radio on name alone, knowing the confidence and assurance of quality expressed in the name.

Philco radios are priced for all, whether it be a $55 model or a $395, the buyer is sure of satisfaction because it is a Philco, says N.P. Haist, local distributor.

WHY STROMBERG-CARLSON RADIOS ARE LEADERS

GOODS UP TO QUALITY, NOT DOWN TO A PRICE DOMINATES COMPANYS POLICY

The Stromberg-Carlson Telephone Mfg. Co., was started 38 years ago for the manufacture of telephones. During that time their policy has always been to manufacture goods of the  highest quality regardless of price.

“Goods up to a quality, not down to a price,” has been the dominating feature of their policy.

The Stromberg-Carlson Management feels that every normal man has a desire to participate in the better things in life and it would be a disappointment if their product did not live up to this expectation-thus their slogan,” There is Nothing Finer than a Stromberg-Carlson Radio.”

STEADY PROGRESS OF VICTOR COMPANY

CONSTANT RESEARCH MAINTAINS POPULARITY OF HIS MASTERS VOICE TRADEMARK

The Victor Talking Machine Company was founded in 1899 by E. Berliner and at that time the activities were confined to the manufacture of Records in a comparatively small factory.

In 1924 the modest Berliner record factory was acquired by Victor, who developed the Orthophonic series of Victrolas and radios.

Hundreds of thousands of dollars are spent annually to keep the Victor name before the public and as a result of constant research, His Master’s Voice trademark has occupied a prominent position for 30 years.

Victor’s experience with millions of owners bears out the maxim that nothing succeeds like success.
